This week, we tested out our drawing abilities with some graffiti - style lettering - our students loved getting to write their name and experiment with ways to express themselves through text and contemporary art styles.
Practice making your own graffiti lettering at home with our lettering practice packet.

Can you believe this isn't paint or a photograph? Neither could our class when we learned about amazing contemporary artist CJ Hendry and her unbelievably realistic colored pencil drawings. This week, we are learning how to use colored pencils as a tool for making our own art - what an inspiring artist to kick us off!
See her drawing work in action in this video here and practice your colored pencil blending skills at home using our blending practice packet. This month our students are learning all about street art and graffiti, so we decided to study the original street artist, Keith Haring and learn about his use of color, symbols, and line in his work. We even made our own subway drawings as a class in his style. Next week, we will be creating our own graffiti masterpieces in colored pencil.
Click here to learn more about his subway drawings, or check out this video about his life and art. You can even play this really fun Keith Haring drawing-by-dice game. Yesterday we kicked off a new unit about contemporary art, graffiti, and street art by studying some of the amazing street artists working around the world today. Our students researched and shared about an artist with their table teams, and wow - what awesome inspiration we found!
Artists included: Banksy, El Seed, Invader, JR, Lelo, Mina Hamada, Shepard Fairey, and Swoon You can read and download more info about all of our artists here and see slides here. Great work teams! - Ms. Morefield This week, our students are learning all about how to draw from what they see vs. what they think. We have been doing tons of drawing, practicing playing with lines and shapes, sketching with gesture, and making contour drawings out of our hands and objects we see in our room.
Missed class? You can try at home using these worksheet for Gesture & Contour Drawing! |
