This week, we took to the art internet to find the latest trend of art-making in quarantine for this choice-board project for students to explore creativity with materials and settings around them. Here were the results. Drawings & Paintings: Looking outside, inside, and in our imagination. Selfies: Capturing the objects and things that supported us through distance-learning & quarantine Memes: Using humor, images, and text to tell stories and jokes about our quarantine experience, including some imagery from throughout art history.

Our students requested a chance to break out their drawing skills and work on making their drawings more realistic. So this past week our students learned about shape, form, and shading. We talked about how we can make a 2D drawing and create the illusion of extra dimensions using just our pencil, blending, and lines. We also talked about artists M.C. Escher and Tracy Lee Strum, and watched some other awesome artists tutorials on YouTube and TikTok. The resulting work turned out awesome!
This past week, students built up their digital literacy skills by learning about being responsible digital citizens and artists online, and learning more about Public Service Announcements. Students studied how artists and other create and share messages online and how to distinguish between ads and PSAs. Then students took to their own homes, neighborhoods, and digital spaces to share positive messages of hope and health during Covid-19. Check out their messages above!
Last week in honor of Earth Day, students studied the work of British artist Andy Goldsworthy and his "land art" sculptures. Students learned how artists are creative with materials and can create art with almost anything that is around them. Students took to exploring their own home and outdoor environments for interesting objects and natural materials in order create some "land art" art of their own. See their original artwork in the slideshow above. They did a fantastic job!
Round #2 - some more great photography and fun projects from home during distance learning by our student artists and photographers!
Welcome back! This week kicks off the start of our distance learning journey using Canvas. Due to extended school closures, we will be moving to this platform for the remainder of the semester to complete our Graphic Arts course.

FAQ's How do I sign up for a Canvas account as a parent? How do I create an account in the Canvas Parent app on my iOS device? How do I create an account in the Canvas Parent app on my Android device? In the last week prior to our school closure, our three Graphic Arts classes were in the midst of learning about photography. They studied famous photographers, tried new perspectives, and captured some unique parts of our AMS campus. It seems fitting now in the face of extended closure to share those images digitally with you. I hope they will serve as a reminder that we can look differently and discover beauty and joy in the everyday things around us. Thanks for visit our gallery, and a special thank you to our students who tried out this new medium and stretched and explore to see things differently. I am so proud of you and the work we have created together this year -- Ms. Morefield You can see our new student photo gallery by clicking here or using the tab at the top of our webpage called "Student Gallery".
Students and families - what in interesting time we are in right now. I hope everyone is remaining safe and healthy. I wanted to share with you that I have made a page in my website dedicated to Arts Remote Resources for Students, Families, and Educators (see the tab at the top of the page). I will try to update this as much as I can.
I also wanted to share with you some of the AMAZING photos and artwork I have received made by our students' during this time. Each time I get an email with new student work, it reminds me the value of staying positive and creative while taking care of ourselves and our loved ones. I hope these resources can be helpful through this closure. Together, we can stay healthy and creative with fun art activities. Be safe and well and take care of yourselves and one another! - Ms. Morefield This past week, our class tried out digital photography for the first time. We got to learn all about composition, perspective, and framing, then explored campus through the lens with photo challenges and scavenger hunt. The students (and Ms. Morefield) had a blast taking pictures and getting outside - even a little rain could not stop us!
